Sean Marti, 24, and 5-month-old Sage Sea Marti of Caldwell, ID were killed by drunk driving, illegal alien Edgar Vasquez-Hernandez, who was driving the wrong way on Highway 84 in Idaho. Natalie Marti was seriously injured and in a coma at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center for nearly two week after the head-on crash. Hernandez suffered a compound fracture to his left hand, which was later amputated.
Officials said Vasquez-Hernandez is a Mexican national.
"We'll forgive the guy and move on," Sean Marti said in March. On June 10, 2003, Hernandez pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular manslaughter and one charge of aggravated driving under the influence. He will be sentenced on September 18. He now faces 45 years in prison and $35,000 in fines and is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 18. Edgar Vasquez Hernandez, who worked as a house framer, was charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter and one count of aggravated driving. Court records show Hernandez was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
